5 Tips for New Muslims

Quick tips for new Muslims…

Now that you have taken your shahada all of your past mistakes are forgiven, and you have been given a “clean slate”, strive to do your best, but remember we are not perfect and Allah is the Most Forgiving.

1. Learn how to make wudu, practice makes perfect!

2. Watch prayer tutorials online, we have a Step by Step Prayer Guide on our free resource centre that will guide you through the steps one by one. Prayer is a fundamental pillar of Islam, and one of the first things we will be asked about by Allah the Almighty. Don't neglect it. Take things slowly, but don't stop learning.

Allah is the Most Merciful. You are judged by your intentions. Although things may seem hard, don't despair. Just keep striving.

3. If you don't live in a Muslim country, download an app with prayer times to remind you. Prayer is your connection to the Almighty and must be performed 5 times a day in shaa Allah- but take it one by one, if you need.

4. Take things slowly, hijab (dress code), learning prayer, supplications…don’t get overwhelmed- we are all constantly learning, Alhamdulillah.

You might like to take one step at a time. Focus on one aspect that you can work on. And keep going.

5. Find a community. As with everything in life it makes things easier if you have someone on your side. Somewhere where you can find support, a place to ask questions, look for advice, and find inspiration.

It could be in person- check if there are any revert communities in your area or classes in the masjid. Or it might be online- such as The Revert Channel membership, or similar.

This life is not meant to be an easy path, but having faith and trusting in Allah's plan makes navigating the journey a lot easier. Turn to Him, and ask for help. His love and mercy is especially for the believer.
